Dear Jukeboxer!

Some of this is taken directly from previous letters because my likes/wants really don't change all that much! Apologies for any repetition.

Aside from my DNWs (which aren't exactly extensive), go ahead and pick and choose through anything/everything below. I'm pretty easy to please so if you want to read the DNWs, skip the rest and write the fic of your heart (or draw the art of your heart!) in whatever fandom we matched on, that's fine by me.

Note: I'm completely happy with any rating ranging from the mildest G right up to the most explicit of explicit (for fic or for art). Also, length of prompts below doesn't indicate that I want one fandom more than another - I just have more words for some and more incoherent squee for others. ;)

Fanart: All my requests are for fic or art (I'm not requesting podfic because I get very easily distracted from non-music audio and it just wouldn't be fair to potential podficcers), and I should probably make it clear that I'm 100% happy with either! But I'm terrible at giving art-specific prompts (I'm trying to improve) so really, if we match on art and nothing from the prompts below grabs you then I'm totally fine with absolutely anything you might come up with in whatever song/video we matched on.

Basically: kissing is good, sparring/physical activity is good, something reminiscent of a canon scene is good... also happy with something porny or dark. I love contrasting colours, bold lines, little details like jewellery or specific clothes people wore in canon (or for this one, something specific to one detail of the lyrics or a moment from the song/video caught in an image), I like fingers twined together (or in hair), or anything from my list of likes below!

Dislikes:

100% DNWs:
  • children/pregnancy (not even vague mentions of pregnancy at all, please, including mpreg and oviposition, and no children as main characters)
  • D/s lifestyle (casual D/s without minute negotiation, or totally unnegotiated dubcon iffiness, are both A-OK!)
  • humiliation (as a kink or otherwise)
  • scat/watersports/emetophilia
  • A/B/O
  • ageplay/infantilisation
  • any mention of spiders/tarantulas or similar - other creepy-crawlies are fine

Things I'm not fond of:
  • character death, if followed only by someone else's unending woeful angst (death in general is fine)
  • threesomes/moresomes/poly, unless requested
  • pure fluff/curtainfic - happy is wonderful, holding hands while skipping through meadows not so much! (unless you're going for crackfic, in which case totally fine)

Likes:

Basically, as long as it's not in my DNWs, absolutely go for it - I mean that 100%. Zombie apocalypse? Really kinky porn? Gore? Random crack? Badfic on purpose? Wacky AUs? All fine! But, if you want ideas about what I like:

General likes:
  • time loops
  • Pacific Rim fusions
  • snarky, sarcastic or tongue-in-cheek humour
  • banter
  • characters getting older; ageing
  • characters knowing each other really well
  • futurefic/post-canon
  • competence, whether physical or intellectual (or both)
  • action scenes; battles; fights (fistfights and with weapons)
  • characters being forced to fight (Hunger Games, Mortal Kombat, that kind of thing)
  • seemingly insignificant details that turn out to be super-important/significant
  • worldbuilding
  • ridiculous crossovers (or indeed sensible ones)

For shipfic (in addition to the above):
  • friends to lovers; enemies to lovers; enemies to friends to lovers
  • characters who know each other really well (or get to know each other really well) and show it without meaning to or really trying to
  • people not saying 'I love you' but clearly meaning/demonstrating it anyway
  • tough characters making themselves realistically vulnerable
  • differences and contrasts in age/height/etc. (especially when the smaller/younger one isn't actually small/young, only in comparison to the other character)
  • one character being physically stronger than the other (especially if the weaker one isn't weak, only weaker in comparison)
  • happy (or at least hopeful) endings
  • getting together
  • first time (first time together, or getting back together after years apart)
  • competence kink
  • loyalty kink; trust kink
  • jealousy/possessiveness/co-dependency/protectiveness
  • admiration (physical and/or intellectual)
  • me-and-you-against-the-world
  • identity porn (roleplaying; undercover; secret identities)
  • characters wearing each other's clothes (fine either way for m/m or f/f, fine for the woman in m/f to wear the man's clothes, but I'd prefer no male crossdressing)
  • fake dating or undercover turning into something more
  • everyone thinks they're dating (but they're not, except maybe then they are)
  • dating but they don't realise (or one of them doesn't but the other does, for cultural/obliviousness reasons)

Explicit/kinky fic:
  • fight sex, or sparring/arguing turning into more
  • rough sex in general, and rough sex that turns slower and/or more intense from one time to the next
  • knifeplay, gunplay, weaponplay in general
  • breathplay/choking (preferably with hands)
  • bloodplay (preferably involving knives)
  • semi-clothed sex; clothed/naked; how awkward clothing (or armour, etc.) is removed
  • sex in showers
  • one character shaving a (male) character's face (preferably with a cutthroat razor but I'll adore anything!)
  • one character writing on another's skin; marking with cuts or bruises
  • stories behind scars/bruises/tattoos (and touching/kissing them, or reopening/reinjuring them)
  • differences in age/height/strength
  • sexual fantasies
  • voice/accent kink; phone sex; sexual situations where one character can only hear the other one (e.g. in total darkness)
  • switching - I have absolutely no strict top/bottom roles in mind (and switching mid-scene is also great)
  • for m/m, first time topping/bottoming/with a guy
  • desperation; characters knowing they shouldn't but not being able to help themselves
  • characters who think they're just having casual sex ending up unexpectedly desperately in love
  • hard, desperate kissing; fingers in hair

Darker fic:
I enjoy darkfic and dark art so as long as it's not in my DNWs, go for it. Torture porn, ghost stories, scary magic, religious weirdness, twisted mindfuckery, non-con, gaslighting, serious body horror, all absolutely A-OK. Feel free to use bad/offensive/dirty language if it fits the fic, as much swearing as you like, etc. I'll read just about anything, including xeno, vore, serial killer AUs, whatever tickles your fancy. Basically: excepting my DNWs, feel free to try to weird me out!

All prompts below are just ideas - absolutely feel free to go in whatever direction you like.

Request-specific info:

As I said above, feel free to disregard the prompts below and/or take things in a totally different direction. I love all these songs and I'm really interested to see what you come up with, whether it's based on my prompts or not!

Oh, and feel 100% free to make up names for any of the characters if you feel like it. I'm not tied to any particular ones and I can't think of any I desperately want avoiding.

Addicted to You - Avicii (Music Video): lyrics | YouTube

I'm hoping that if we matched on this, we like it for the same reasons - and that's the sort of prohibition-era Bonnie-and-Clyde-like f/f tragiromance! The atmosphere and the sets and clothes and whatnot are excellent, but I love their (brief!) relationship.

Soooo...who are the two women? Where are they from? Where did they meet? How did they get together, and how on earth did they get into robberies? Has one (or both) of them always been a thief? Are they part of a larger crew at all or is it very much just the two of them?

What's the brunette doing working? Is that the start of things, the place they met, and maybe where they plotted how to get out of their potentially mundane everyday lives, and then did it? Or is there some sort of "move to a place, stay a while, then perform a robbery and GTFO of town" thing going on? Is there a particular guy/team after them? Is it all a fantasy and they're actually stuck in some small town somewhere with no way to get out and this is what one (or both) of them dreams about? I'm up for whatever take on this you want to run with!

Totally happy with fix-it where they don't die (do they end up in jail? jailbreak? on the run forever? do they settle down at some point instead (and work for some kind of mafia boss or something, maybe)?), not-quite-fix-it where the brunette doesn't die but the blonde does and she ends up in jail (jailbreak and revenge and maybe new love, anyone?), maybe scenes from past robberies? A happy moment would be nice, or something properly tragic.

I think I basically just want all the backstory for these two and how they got where they ended up, and what might happen with one/both of them in the future, should they survive! :D

Headless Cross - Black Sabbath (Song): lyrics | YouTube

It pains me that the Headless Cross album is so horribly unknown because honestly, it's my favourite Black Sabbath album. Tony Martin is great on it, it's really atmospheric and all the songs are consistently excellent. And I say that as a massive Dio fan who really enjoys his period with Sabbath.

I nommed the song rather than the video but if you want to write based on the video then no problem, I'm totally down with that, I really like the video in all its late-80s hair-and-leather-and-shoulderpads glory. It's pretty effective, with its random people in monks' robes at heavy tables with scrolls and candles, carving a cross that gets its head zapped off by lightning, darkness and torches and wandering across moors and through woods... and stone walls and cloisters and whatnot. It's evocative, what can I say, and I love all of that stuff!

Absolutely any interpretation of this is A-OK with me. If you want to go bizarre and Satanic and ritualistic and set sometime in the past (heck go Name of the Rose or Cadfael lengths back in the past if you like), great! If you want to write it as a grizzled (or conversely overly chipper!) tour guide telling scary stories about an area's past (and maybe something weird happens while they're on their tour), go ahead! Possessed priests? Witches? Black masses? An actual Satan-on-earth, four-horsemen, unholy-armies-take-over sort of apocalyptic thing? Go ahead. Heck, write Black Sabbath band RPF around the making of the video with creepy goings on - I'd read it! ;)

But yes, I'm definitely hoping for something supernatural here and if there's any way you can get the headless cross itself in there, awesome! :D

Confident - Demi Lovato (Music Video): lyrics | YouTube

Basically: I love this video. It's such cracktastic actiony fun! If there's fighting and explosions and shadowy espionage or James Bond-type shenanigans, motorcycles, dramatic escapes... any of that is absolutely awesome. I'm really up for wherever you might want to take it in terms of the two main female characters. I love that they're both strong and, well, confident, and kick all kinds of ass. And I love that they win in the end.

In terms of prompts: maybe working together in the future, backstory, meeting up on a job by accident, finding out there's a bigger plot involved and getting to the bottom of it together, finding it's basically Nikita with explosions and they've both got let-out-of-jail-to-be-assassins histories... Maybe they knew each other before. Maybe they have medically-induced amnesia and start to remember. Maybe there are more of them, and maybe they seek them out. Maybe [insert whatever tropetastic action/spy thing you might be into here]! Who are they? What's their background? How did they end up where they are?

I should probably also say: if you want to write femslash, go for it, 100% - I will absolutely enjoy whatever level of explicitness you fancy writing, and I'm absolutely up for a random PWP if that's where you want to go, or something plottier! If you're not into that, also absolutely fine! I'm primarily interested in who they are, what got them into trouble in the first place, and/or where they end up. Probably with motor vehicles and firearms. :D

Quick note: References to absolutely anything else Robert Rodriguez or Michelle Rodriguez have done are totally fine by me (in no way required, but it could be hilarious!); I'm also a fan of ridiculous action movie tropes in general. I don't really know any other Demi Lovato stuff so I'd need some pretty heavy signposting for that to work (but totally open to it if you want to go there, just might be useful to mention it in notes!).

Killing the Dragon - Dio (Song): lyrics | YouTube

I'm a massive Dio fan and okay, so I know what this song's technically about, or at least what Dio said it was about, but I'd like actual quests to slay dragons for this one! Well, either that or something about a computer game quest to slay dragons, IF of dragon-slaying, people playing a tabletop RPG that involves significant dragon-slaying, slapping a bunch of people into a dragon-slaying fantasy world à la D&D cartoon, or something like that. Killing of dragons, or the attempted killing of dragons, that are actually meant to be dragons (real or gamey), or at the very least another sort of supernatural creature and not technological metaphors, is preferred!

Is the "queen" here an actual queen with a crown that they're trying to find or are we talking about a female dragon? Sign of the cross - are we talking Christian knights on a quest? Templars? Priests/monks, maybe? Something else entirely? Are we talking vampires and vampire-hunters here, considering it's talking about hiding till dark...? Does the quest succeed? Who are the people involved?

Is that another dragon in the second verse, a male one that's been hoarding gold and rubies or something like that? Or, considering what comes next, are we talking about a werewolf lord in some sort of cold, snowy land that villagers are taking their torches and pitchforks to go hunt down? Does the quest succeed? Who are the people involved in this one?

I'd prefer not to focus on the third verse unless you're not interpreting it as Dio's thing about technology being bad for people and we need to beware omg. But if you want to go for some sort of weird gods-in-the-machine thing and make it futuristic and about people being enslaved by a sort of strange AI king, I'm all for that!

Basically, I'm hoping for something supernaturally oriented instead of something like modern child abduction, feudal lords and electronic serfdom. Dio was amazing but I prefer this song with fantasy elements and not as an allegory! Feel free to go with just one verse or however many you like, I'm totally not going to complain if you focus on one element.

Again, if you want to write a pairing in here then I'm totally fine with that, whether it's involving humans on a quest, vampires, werewolves, dragons, whatever tickles your fancy. Gen is, as always, just as great - dragon-slayers ftw! ;)

Bible Black - Heaven and Hell (Song): lyrics | YouTube

First and foremost, please please please don't use the music video in this. It doesn't fit the lyrics to the song at all, to me, and I was hugely disappointed the first time I saw it. No angels flying through hell carrying books, please!

Soooo! Okay, this song has always sort of reminded me of the Evil Dead and its Necronomicon Ex Mortis. Don't worry, I'm not prompting for some sort of weird Bruce Campbell crossover here (though heck, if you wanted to write Ash doing something stupid, I'm up for that) - what I'm primarily interested in is the book, and what it is, and who exactly it is that's reading it, and why!

Is this that there's a guy who's getting older and decides he doesn't want to die (so concocts a way out)? Feel free to go with that and have him read himself into a weird place, be that opening a portal to hell or selling his soul to the devil or whatever, or something Hellraisery where it takes him to a creepy pain dimension. I'd definitely like some sort of supernatural element in this, though, be that religious or otherwise.

I do like the book motif, though, and language doing something weird to the guy involved. Is "oh Lord please take me with you" talking to some sort of supernatural creature (because I'm fairly sure he's not talking to God, unless we're talking about some sort of alternative dark religion here and I'm totally willing to go with that if you are!). And heck, who wrote the book!

Also, feel free to have someone else come along after the song's end and read the book, like the guy's (grown-up) kids, or maybe a great-grandchild eventually inherits it, or there's a researcher who picks it up or some unsuspecting person at a second hand bookshop - maybe the book just keeps cropping up in different places in different times, whether it's willed itself there somehow or there's someone doing it. Not bothered who that is or what their identity might be!

Also, feel free to go as dark and weird as you like! Guy ends up in hell? Tell me about what that's like. Guy ends up some sort of dark god's plaything (in a sexy sense or in a torturous sense, or both)? Tell me about that! Maybe he ends up being some sort of supernatural creature. Maybe a creature lives in/through the book itself and gets into his head (or maybe "something that he knows he's never read" is inaccurate and he read it when he was a child and "forgot", and it's been there with him all along). Maybe the book turns up because he wants/needs it to.

Gen or with a pairing, with or without smut or whatever, is totally fine.

Bad Girl - Madonna (Music Video): lyrics | YouTube

I hadn't realised there was a video for this until it turned up in Jukebox last year (thank you to whoever nominated it!), and I just love it. I mean, seriously, Madonna at her 100% 90s sexiest and Christopher Walken as some kind of an angel (of death?)? Fantastic production values? An actual story? This is nigh on perfect.

So, tell me about Christopher Walken's character! Who is he? Why is he there? Is he her guardian angel? Is he an angel of death? Is he someone she used to know (the lyrics hint at someone she can't let go - a dead lover, maybe?)? Is he something else entirely? Is he just there to watch her life? How long has he been watching her? How does he feel about her, and about the fact he's watching her? Has he done this before with anyone else? Is she any different? Can he make himself visible (or known) in any way? Go as supernatural and weird as you like! :D

What about Madonna? What does she do in that office of hers? What's so bad about her, anyway? Who are the men she's seen with in the video (I'd prefer the focus be on her and/or Christopher Walken, but I'm interested in who she's spending her time with!)? Does she know she's going to die? Does she have an idea that he's there? What happens after she's dead - does she go with him and end up doing the same "job" he does (maybe with him as her mentor)? Does she have to move on and leave him behind at some point? Is it that she's not actually human and her time on Earth is pretty limited anyway? Pseudo-happy or grimdark equally fine. :D

I'm totally up for the two of them having some sort of weird relationship before or after her death, him watching her with other men (whether or not she knows he's there), etc. Also absolutely fine with a gen relationship here, to be clear - I'm just very interested in seeing them interact in some way!

Genghis Khan - Miike Snow (Music Video): lyrics | YouTube

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if you've offered this one, you might be here for the same things I am - I'm thinking the villain/spy relationship! I love the aesthetic of the video with its very 70s feel, the fact it all feels very slightly Scandinavian to me somehow, the turtlenecks and uniforms and James Bondness, the fact that the two guys aren't the youngest they could've chosen and aren't necessarily the prettiest they could've chosen...I find these things to be wonderful. :D

The only things I don't particularly want here are huge amounts of dwelling on the villain's prior relationship with his wife (assuming they're married! I like her as a character and think she's perfectly sympathetic and I'd love a revenge plot if you're feeling that way inclined, whether it succeeds or not!), or lots of participation in the story from the kids (I'm totally okay with them being there, but I'd prefer they not be running about all over throughout the thing, or a huge main focus if you matched for art on this).

I have a huge thing for enemies-to-lovers, so this totally hits all the right buttons with me. I wonder, though: how long have the two of them known each other? Are they nemeses? Did they maybe know each other a long time ago and took very different paths, or is it a much more recent thing? I've got this weird fic I've never finished where they meet at university, and I'm also absolutely here for them meeting much, much closer to the events of the video.

Tell me how they met, maybe! Was it all secret identities and espionage? Did either of them know who the other was? Tell me what the villain's up to in the video, where they are (is this some sort of over-the-top secret base under a volcano thing or is it something much more mundane?), who the spy works for (is he actually a good guy, à la James Bond, or is he from a more sinister organisation?). What's with the gold nose, anyway? Has the spy thwarted any of the villain's previous plans?

Does either of them change sides afterwards, and if so then how would that work? Is it actually a happy ending or is this some sort of bizarre Stockholm/Lima situation where they've been obsessed with each other for so long that they're weirdly codependent and destructive and it takes a while for things to fall into place? Is the villain actually the top guy in his organisation or is he working for someone else (a supervillain type, a government, etc.?).

And really, what sort of havoc might they cause together if they're on the same side?

Eyes of a Stranger - Queensrÿche (Song): lyrics | YouTube

Okay, I know, if you're a Queensrÿche fan then nominating one song from Operation: Mindcrime might seem a bit on the weird side. But let's forget all about Mindcrime for a minute!

(And if you don't know much/any Queensrÿche and you fancy writing/arting for this song for me, please feel free to totally ignore the video; if you don't watch it at all, or totally disregard it if you do, actually so much the better!)

I heard this song before I had any idea which album it came from or indeed that the album it came from told a story, and that's totally why I've nominated it - feel free to forget anything you might know about Mindcrime and go with whatever else the song might conjure up. So, some questions!

Why doesn't the narrator remember who he is? Who is he? Where is he? Is he institutionalised? How did he end up there? What's going on?

If you want to go for a story about how the person he's seeing really is a stranger and not just that he can't remember - who is that? Does he have some sort of evil twin? Is he seeing someone in a sort of weird mirror universe? How? I'm totally up for supernatural elements here if you like!

Who is this person he's remembering? Go with the rosary thing if you like...someone Catholic? A friend? A priest? What's their relationship? Are they family? Are they lovers? (Yes, I'm totally fine with narrator/priest or whatever you might come up with.) What happened to them? What is he dreaming about? Is it even real?

What's the "tragedy" he's talking about? Is the person he remembers dead? Is it referring to something else entirely? Who's telling him lies (and what are those lies)? What's the truth?

Basically: I have questions about this song - answering any one of them would make me super-happy! :D

Hall of the Mountain King - Savatage (Song): lyrics | YouTube

No relation to the Grieg tune of the (almost-)same name, of course!

I requested the song rather than the music video because I'd be interested in an interpretation that doesn't necessarily follow the video strictly, but honestly I'm not 100% tied to either/or - if you know (or happen to watch) the video and have an idea based on that, totally go for it!

(It's a very, very silly video, however, complete with big 80s hair and bad SFX and running around in caves for no apparent reason and the ending is completely and utterly hilarious, so you've been warned...)

I'm thinking sort of dark and creepy and sort of fantasy setting here! Dwarves digging halls into mountains in the Lord of the Rings (or Diggy Diggy Hole!) sense is great (note: I'm not requesting LotR or Diggy Diggy Hole here, just using them as examples). Maybe they dig too deep and find something unpleasant, or they're some other kind of magical creatures who are hunted to extinction or killed in battles and leave behind their king who's guarding some kind of ancient secret.

Or: a weird eldritch horror guarding the books of life and a quest with swords and armour and potential death into the mountain to find them, complete with the king's "children" (scary monsters?) complicating matters? Or maybe the "hall" here is a castle on the top of a mountain, or in the side of a mountain, and the king is a standard human but there's some sort of court intrigue and old dangerous secrets (hence "madness reigns" and "mysteries that sleep safe inside").

Or: not a fantasy pseudo-historical setting at all but something completely different and it really is "far away in a land caught between time and space".

I'm absolutely fine with this being as weird and twisted or as straightforward as you like, however you interpret it, o Jukeboxer! As with the rest, pairings are fine: Mountain King/Quester? Quester/Mountain Prince(ss)? Two of the people on a quest? S'up to you, or gen is also beautiful.

Goldeneye - Tina Turner (Song): lyrics | YouTube

I love that this song has basically nothing at all to do with the GoldenEye movie, though I do love GoldenEye to a ridiculous extent. If you wanted to try to make it somehow relevant to the movie then do feel free (I'd be intrigued to see how!), but I nominated this with an interpretation of the lyrics in mind (hence nominating the song and not the video) rather than its extremely tenuous relationship to Bond.

Supernatural elements seem to be my go-to in this letter and that would be great here if you feel that way inclined. Is the "him" some sort of creature/monster/horror/spirit/god? Maybe he comes up from the water to live with the people (or torment the people) every [arbitrary number of years] or something of that manner, and the narrator's been waiting to trap him? Maybe he comes to choose a sacrifice to go with him and the narrator's (for whatever reason) annoyed that it wasn't her.

Modern setting? Weird fantasy setting? Sometime in the past? In the far future after some sort of awful apocalpyse? Anything's absolutely fine. Maybe the narrator has found some sort of supernatural power for herself so she can keep him with her. Does he actually have golden eyes or is that a metaphor or the name or something else? Also happy to see some creepy-weird femdom, or maybe it all backfires on her for some reason, maybe he's let her catch him, or maybe the narrator's actually male instead?

I'm also interested in how she's intending on trapping him, incidentally - maybe it's actually a kiss or, y'know a straightforward honey trap. Maybe it literally does bring him to his knees.

Totally fine with shapeshifting, weird xeno, smut, magic, whatever you like!
